Passing target: 70% (21/30)
You have just passed a bicyclist who rides near the right edge of the road. Now you want to turn right at the next corner, and the rider is still close to your right side. What should you do?
A has just passed cyclist B near the right edge and approaches a right-hand corner. B remains close beside the rear of A on its right.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the rider go ahead, and merge in behind the rider before you turn.
Why
When a driver turns right across a bicyclist, the rider, who is still going straight, has almost no time to stop. New Mexico law requires a right turn to start from as close to the right edge as practicable and only when the turn is safe; with a rider on your right, that means you get in behind the rider first. Check your right mirror and blind spot before you turn.
