You have a green light and start a right turn at a corner with no painted crosswalk lines. A pedestrian has stepped off the corner to cross the street that you turn into. What should you do?
A is at the start of a right turn under green. B has stepped from the corner into the street A will enter; there are no painted crosswalk lines.
Correct answer: Stop and let the pedestrian finish crossing the street.
Why
Before you turn left or right, check the crosswalks on both sides of your path, not only the road. New York law treats the part of the road between the sidewalk corners at an intersection as a crosswalk, even when no lines are painted. Pedestrians can be hard to see during a turn, especially people in wheelchairs or with strollers, so slow down and look before you turn the wheel.
