Passing target: 70% (14/20)
You are leaving a shopping-center parking lot to turn right onto a busy street. A public sidewalk crosses the exit, and there is no sign or signal at the exit. What must you do?
A approaches the public sidewalk across a shopping-lot exit and plans to turn right onto the street. Pedestrian C is on the sidewalk and car B approaches on the street. There is no sign or signal at the exit.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, then yield to people walking and to all traffic on the street
Why
Drivers on the street do not expect a car to come out of a lot, and people on the sidewalk can be hidden by parked cars. The stop gives you time to look both ways along the sidewalk and the street. Where there is no sidewalk, stop at the point nearest the road where you can see the traffic that is coming. If you turn left instead, you must yield to traffic from both directions.
