You follow a slow car on a two-way road and see a railroad crossing ahead. At what distance before the crossing does New York law start to forbid a pass on the left?
A follows slower car B toward railroad tracks on a two-way road. The nearest rail and a crossbuck are visible, with no passing-distance value in the question image.
Correct answer: 100 feet
Why
Near a crossing, you may have to stop suddenly for a train, lights or gates, and most buses and some trucks must stop at the tracks. If you are in the oncoming lane there, you have no safe place to go. The same 100-foot limit applies near a bridge, tunnel or viaduct on a two-way road when your view is blocked.
