You enter a roundabout. The street you want leaves the circle on the far left side. How do you drive to that exit?
A approaches a roundabout from the left of the image. Its intended exit is the road at the top, to the left relative to A’s approach. White circulation arrows point counterclockwise around the island.
Correct answer: Turn right as you enter and go counterclockwise around the island to the exit
Why
A modern roundabout is a circular intersection where all traffic moves counterclockwise around a central island. New York law requires drivers to pass to the right of the island unless signs direct otherwise. To reach an exit on the left, you enter to the right and stay in the circle past the other exits. With one direction of travel, entering drivers only need to watch for traffic coming from the left.
