You drive in the right lane of a road with two lanes in each direction. The line on the left side of your lane is white, and the next line farther left is yellow. What do the colors tell you?
A travels in the right of two lanes on its side of a four-lane road. A broken white line is immediately to its left; double yellow lines are beyond the next lane.
Correct answer: Traffic just past the white line moves your way, and traffic past the yellow line comes toward you.
Why
Line color answers one question: which way does the traffic on the other side of the line go? Knowing this helps you avoid a head-on crash, especially at night, in rain or on an unfamiliar road. The pattern of a line, solid or broken, is a separate message that tells you whether you may cross it.
