On a two-lane rural road, you come up fast behind a slow tractor that pulls a wide implement. As you get close, the tractor slows down and its driver signals a left turn. What should you do?
A approaches slow tractor B on a two-lane rural road. B tows a wide implement behind it, and the card states that it is slowing and signaling a left turn toward the side entrance.
Correct answer: Slow down and stay behind the tractor until it has turned, and do not try to pass it.
Why
Farm equipment moves much slower than other traffic, so you close the gap very fast; start to slow down as soon as you see it. Many crashes with farm equipment happen when a driver tries to pass while the equipment turns left. Be patient: the operator should pull off at a safe place to let traffic by, and you may never pass farm equipment in a no-passing zone.
