Your car is parallel parked along the right-hand curb of a two-way street. You are ready to pull out into the travel lane. What should you do?
A is parallel parked beside the right-hand curb of a two-way street, facing the same direction as traffic in the adjacent lane. No departure path or selected signal appears yet.
Correct answer: Check for approaching traffic, give a left-turn signal, and pull out when the lane is clear.
Why
A car that pulls away from the curb moves into the path of traffic that can come up fast from behind. Use your mirrors and turn your head to look for vehicles and bicycles, and signal early so that other drivers know your plan. When you are the driver in the lane and a car ahead starts to pull out of a parallel space, slow down and be ready to stop.
