Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You and an oncoming car reach an intersection with no signs or signals at the same time. You want to turn left, and the other driver will go straight. What should you do?
A and oncoming car B reach an intersection without signs or signals at the same time. The card states that A plans to turn left while B will go straight.
Correct answer: Wait for the oncoming car to go through, then turn when it is safe
Why
When two facing vehicles arrive together, the right-hand rule does not help, because neither driver is on the other's right. North Carolina law settles it: the driver who turns left yields to oncoming traffic that is close enough to be a hazard. The same duty applies on a green light and on a flashing yellow arrow. Look carefully for motorcycles, which are harder to see and to judge when you turn left.
