Thick fog forms while you drive on a rural road at dusk. You slow down, but you can see only a short way ahead. Which lights should you use?
A travels on a rural two-lane road as thick fog forms at dusk. The road markings and silver car B ahead fade into the fog; the card states that A has slowed and has only a short view.
Correct answer: Low-beam headlights, and watch for the taillights of cars ahead
Why
High beams make fog glare worse, and parking lights or flashers alone do not meet the headlight law. If the fog becomes so thick that you have extreme trouble seeing, pull far off the road, stop, secure the vehicle and turn on the flashers. Then get out on the passenger side and stay away from the road.
