Late in the afternoon you drive west, and the low sun shines straight into your eyes. You have already lowered the sun visor and put on sunglasses, but you still cannot see the road clearly. What should you do?
A faces west on a two-lane road, toward bright low-sun glare that washes out the view ahead. A clear paved roadside area lies on the driver’s right; the card states that the visor is down and sunglasses are on but the view remains unclear.
Correct answer: Pull off onto the roadside at a safe place and wait until you can see well enough to drive.
Why
Direct or reflected sunlight can hide a stopped car, a pedestrian or a traffic signal. Slow down as soon as glare begins and leave more following distance. A dirty windshield makes glare worse, so keep it clean.
