You park facing downhill on a street with a curb. Which way should you turn the front wheels, and why?
A faces downhill beside the curb on its right. A separate side profile shows the direction of the road’s grade, with no wheel-setting answer in the question image.
Correct answer: Toward the curb, so that a rolling car turns its front tire into the curb.
Why
The manual shows three hill-parking positions, and each one turns the wheels so that a rolling car goes to the curb or the shoulder, not into traffic. When you face downhill, the car would roll forward, so the front of the tire must point into the curb. This backup is most important when the brakes or the transmission do not hold the car.
