You come to a single-lane roundabout. A pedestrian waits at the crosswalk before the entry, and a car that is already in the roundabout is coming toward your entry from the left. What is the correct order?
A approaches a single-lane roundabout. Pedestrian C waits on the entry-side sidewalk beside the crosswalk, and car B circulates toward A’s entry from the left. A YIELD sign faces the entrance.
Correct answer: Slow down, yield to the pedestrian, then yield to the circling car before you enter.
Why
Roundabouts reduce the number and the severity of crashes, because all traffic moves one way at low speed. At a roundabout with more than one lane, use the left lane to turn left and the right lane to turn right, unless signs or markings show a different use. Inside, stay in your lane and do not pass large trucks. North Dakota law does not require a turn signal when you exit a roundabout.
