Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive out of a store parking lot in a business district. A sidewalk crosses the exit, and nobody is on it. Beyond it is a busy street. What must you do?
A approaches an empty public sidewalk across the exit from a store parking lot. Car B travels on the street beyond the sidewalk; A is still inside the driveway.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, then yield to all traffic on the street before you enter.
Why
Drivers who leave a driveway or an alley often have a poor view of the sidewalk, and a pedestrian on a sidewalk has the right-of-way. The full stop gives you time to look both ways along the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, stop before you enter the street. Then wait for a gap that lets you enter without making other drivers brake.
