Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive at 55 mph on a dark rural highway when both headlights suddenly go out. What should you do?
A travels at 55 mph on a dark rural two-lane road with a clear paved shoulder to its right. No headlight beam lights the road ahead; the card says both headlights have failed.
Correct answer: Slow down, try the parking lights and turn signals, and leave the road once you have slowed.
Why
Without headlights, you cannot see the road, and other drivers can no longer see you. Slow down, turn on any lights that still work, such as the parking lights and turn signals, and get off the road as soon as you can do so safely. North Dakota law requires lighted headlamps from sunset to sunrise, so do not continue the trip until the headlights work.
