Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane road, the car ahead of you stops and signals a left turn into a driveway. A wide paved shoulder is to your right. What is the rule for passing it on the right?
A follows B on a two-lane road. B is stopped with its left signal on for the driveway across the center line, as stated by the card. A wide paved shoulder lies beyond the white edge line on the right.
Correct answer: You may pass on its right only if your lane has room, not on the shoulder.
Why
Other road users do not expect a vehicle on the shoulder: a bicyclist, a pedestrian, a stopped car or loose gravel can be there, and the turning driver may not see you. When there is not enough room, wait behind the turning car. The manual also tells drivers who turn left to watch for vehicles that pass on their right.
