Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive on a two-lane, two-way road and plan to turn left onto a four-lane highway that has two lanes in each direction. How should you make the turn?
A approaches a left turn from a two-lane, two-way road. Its left side is near the center line, and the receiving highway has two marked lanes in each direction.
Correct answer: Keep your left wheels near the center line, turn into the passing lane, then move right when it is safe.
Why
A left turn that ends in the nearest lawful lane keeps your path short and easy for others to predict, and it leaves the far lane free. North Dakota law says that a left turn should end in the left-hand lane that traffic in your direction may use. From a two-way road onto another two-way road, start as close to the center line as you can and finish just to the right of the center line of the new road.
