Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You drive in the right lane of a four-lane street. A motorcycle ahead rides in the left part of your lane, and there seems to be room for your car beside it. What should you do?
A follows motorcycle B in the right lane of a street with two lanes in each direction. B rides in the left part of that lane, leaving visible space to its right.
Correct answer: Stay out of the motorcycle's lane, and use the other lane if you want to pass.
Why
A motorcyclist often changes position in the lane to avoid potholes, gravel, wet surfaces, and pavement seams. A car beside the motorcycle in the same lane removes that escape space and can force the rider into a hazard. North Dakota law also does not let motorcyclists ride between lanes of traffic, so each vehicle keeps its own lane.
