Passing target: 80% (24/30)
On a two-lane highway, you follow a car at the speed limit. A pickup comes up and follows very close behind you. What should you do?
A follows silver car B on a two-lane highway. Pickup C is only a few feet behind A, and the card states that A is already at the speed limit.
Correct answer: Leave extra space ahead of you, and let the pickup pass when it can; do not speed up.
Why
When someone follows too closely, a sudden stop ahead can cause a chain collision. With more space ahead, you can brake early and gently, which gives the driver behind more time to react. If the driver keeps tailgating, move out of the way where it is safe. North Dakota law says that a driver who is being passed must not speed up until the pass is complete.
