You drive in the left lane of a four-lane highway, beside a loaded tractor-trailer. Your exit is just ahead on the right. What should you do?
A travels beside loaded tractor-trailer B in the left lane of a four-lane, two-way highway. A right-hand exit branches from the truck’s lane just ahead.
Correct answer: Slow down, let the truck go ahead of you, and move over behind it to exit.
Why
Trucks weigh more than cars, so they need longer distances to stop and to speed up, and they need more room to turn. A car that cuts into the space ahead of a truck and then slows for an exit gives the truck driver no room to stop. The same danger exists when you try to get ahead of a truck before a lane closes in a work zone.
