You stop at the stop line of a stop sign. A row of parked vans blocks your view of the cross traffic. What should you do next?
A has stopped at the line on a side street. A row of three tall vans is parked along the near curb of the cross street to A’s left, obstructing the view of approaching traffic.
Correct answer: Move forward slowly until you can see, stop again if needed, and go when it is clear.
Why
A stop line keeps your vehicle out of the path of pedestrians and turning trucks, so the first stop is always there. When parked vehicles or buildings block your view, move ahead slowly and look left, right and left again. Motorcycles and bicycles are easy to miss behind parked vans, so look for them too.
