Passing target: 75% (30/40)
You reach a work zone where a flagger controls traffic. The flagger turns the STOP side of a paddle toward you. The car ahead of you went through a moment ago, and the lane ahead looks clear. What should you do?
A approaches a work-zone flagger holding the STOP side of a paddle toward the car. B has already passed the flagger, and the lane ahead appears clear; a separate detail enlarges the paddle face.
Correct answer: Stop, and wait until the flagger turns the paddle to SLOW or waves you on.
Why
Flaggers control traffic where a lane is closed or where equipment must cross the road. The Ohio manual says you must follow their instructions, and Ohio law lists a flagger as a traffic control device (ORC 4511.01 and 4511.12). A flagger often holds you because traffic from the other direction is using your lane, which you may not see yet.
