Passing target: 80% (16/20)
On a two-lane road, a bicyclist rides near the middle of your narrow lane. A steady line of cars comes the other way, and your lane is too narrow for a car and a bike to share side by side. What should you do?
A follows B, who rides near the middle of a narrow lane. Three silver cars form a line in the opposite lane, led by C; a broken yellow center line separates the directions.
Correct answer: Stay behind the rider until the oncoming lane is clear, then pass with room
Why
A bicyclist must ride as far right as is safe only when a car and a bike can share the lane side by side. When the lane is too narrow, or when parked cars, debris or potholes make the edge unsafe, the rider may use the full lane. The manual says that it is safest to let the bike take the lane and to pass only when there is enough room. The wait is usually short.
