Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You wait in the intersection to turn left on a steady green circle, not a green arrow. An oncoming car is close and is coming straight through. What must you do?
A waits inside the intersection to turn left under a steady circular green signal. B is close on the opposite approach and is coming straight through; A’s wheels remain straight.
Correct answer: Wait until the oncoming car passes and you have a clear gap to turn.
Why
A steady green circle lets you turn left, but it does not give you the right-of-way over oncoming traffic. Many serious intersection crashes happen when a left-turning driver misjudges the speed of an oncoming car. While you wait, keep your wheels pointed straight ahead and watch for pedestrians in the crosswalk that you will cross. Turn only when you can finish the turn without making oncoming drivers brake or swerve.
