You reach an intersection that has no signs or signals at about the same time as a car on your left. That driver slows down and looks at you. What should you do?
A approaches an intersection with no signs or signals as B approaches from A’s left. The card states that they arrive together and B slows and looks toward A.
Correct answer: Make sure that the other driver sees you, then go ahead without delay.
Why
When two vehicles reach an intersection with no signs or signals at about the same time, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right. A driver who has the right-of-way but does not use it confuses other drivers, so the manual tells you to go promptly when someone yields to you. Eye contact tells you that the other driver has seen you. Right-of-way is something to give, not to take: if the other driver keeps coming, yield to avoid a crash.
