For a vehicle with hydraulic brakes and a conventional hand-operated parking brake, what does the MTO handbook advise if the brake pedal fails to slow the vehicle?
Correct answer: Pump the pedal; if that fails, apply the parking brake.
Why
Try pumping for temporary hydraulic pressure. If unsuccessful, use the conventional parking brake gently but firmly while holding its release button. After stopping, do not drive away; call for help. Other parking-brake designs require their vehicle-specific instructions. Turning off an engine does not always lock steering.
