Passing target: 16 correct signs and 16 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
You entered an intersection legally on a steady green light and are waiting to turn left. The light changes to red. What should you do?
Blue car A is beyond the south stop line inside a four-way intersection. The signal beside its approach shows red. An opposing red car is behind its stop line.
Correct answer: Complete the turn when the way is safe and clear, although the light is now red
Why
When already legally in the intersection, complete the left turn only when it is safe. Check that approaching traffic has stopped or cleared and that pedestrians, cyclists and the receiving lane are clear. Do not assume an oncoming vehicle will stop just because the signal changed. This is not permission to enter the intersection after facing a red light.
Verified against MTO Driver’s Handbook — Traffic lights · Lights and arrows to help turning vehicles / Simultaneous left turn: already-in-intersection turn may be completed when safe after red; yield to traffic and pedestrians.
