Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You drive 25 mph on a dry street. The rear of the car ahead passes a sign post, and you reach the same post as you finish counting 'one-thousand-one.' What does this tell you?
On a dry two-lane street, A’s front reaches a roadside post while B is farther ahead in the same lane. The card states that at 25 mph A counted one second from B’s rear passing that post.
Correct answer: You are too close; drop back and count again at another post
Why
The count works at any speed because it measures time, not distance. Pick a fixed object such as a sign or a pole, start counting when the rear of the vehicle ahead passes it, and stop when you reach it. Repeat the check until you are at least two seconds back, and use four seconds or more above 30 mph.
