Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You drive 30 mph on a city street with two lanes in your direction. The limit is 35 mph, and most traffic moves at 35 mph. You will not turn left soon. Where must you drive?
A travels in the left of two lanes going the same way, with B behind and the right lane clear. C travels in the opposite direction. The card gives A’s 30 mph speed, traffic at 35 mph, a 35 mph limit and no upcoming left turn.
Correct answer: In the right lane, or as close as practical to the right curb or edge
Why
Keeping slower vehicles to the right lets faster traffic pass on the left, where other drivers expect it. This reduces sudden lane changes and passing on the right. The same rule applies on freeways: if you drive below the flow of traffic, use the right lane.
