The posted limit is 55 mph. Because of fog, a yellow digital sign ahead lights up with ADVISORY SPEED 30. Which statement about this sign is correct?
Correct answer: It recommends 30 mph; a speed too fast for the fog can still be cited.
Why
Oregon's digital speed signs use road, weather, traffic and visibility sensors, and the yellow advisory signs are switched on only when conditions call for a lower speed. The sign color tells you the type: yellow means advice, black and white means a legal limit. A slower speed in fog gives you more time to see and react to hazards and more room to stop.
