Your engine starts to fail on a highway, but the car can still move. Which plan follows the Pennsylvania manual?
A is still moving in the highway’s right lane beside a wide, clear shoulder, and the card says that the engine is failing. No stopping path or open hood is shown yet.
Correct answer: Signal, get far off the road where drivers can see you, turn on the flashers, and lift the hood.
Why
A disabled car near fast traffic is in danger of a crash. Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. 4305(a)) requires you to use your hazard flashers when your vehicle is stopped or disabled on a highway. Under the Move Over law (3327), a vehicle counts as disabled when it shows at least two of these: hazard flashers, caution signs or other traffic-control devices, or road flares. Other drivers must then move over or slow down.
