Passing target: 83.3% (15/18)
On an interstate with two lanes in your direction, you move left to pass a slow truck. After the pass, you drive at the speed limit, and faster cars come up behind you. The right lane is clear. What should you do?
A has passed truck B on a two-lane interstate, with faster cars C and D approaching behind A in the left lane. The right lane ahead of the truck is clear, and the card states that A is at the speed limit.
Correct answer: Signal and return to the right lane when you are safely clear of the truck.
Why
A driver who stays in the left lane causes faster drivers to pass on the right or to follow too closely. On a limited-access highway with two or more lanes in one direction, Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. 3313(d)) requires you to use the right-hand lanes. The exceptions are: to pass, to drive faster than the traffic flow, to let traffic merge, or to prepare for a left exit. The manual adds: change one lane at a time, signal each time, and do not block the passing lane.
