You drive on a road that has a center lane for left turns from both directions. You plan to turn left into a shopping center about half a mile ahead. How should you use the center lane?
A travels beside a shared center left-turn lane marked with opposing turn arrows. A shopping-center entrance is farther ahead on the left; the caption gives the half-mile distance and states that the view is schematic.
Correct answer: Signal, then enter it fully a short distance before the entrance.
Why
Drivers from both directions use the same center lane, so watch for oncoming vehicles in it and for vehicles that turn into it from driveways on your left. Turn only when there is a big enough gap in oncoming traffic. Drivers who turn left out of a cross street or driveway may also use the lane to wait before they merge into traffic.
