Passing target: 83.3% (15/18)
You drive at about 45 mph on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. A slow truck is ahead of you. About 500 feet ahead, the top of a hill hides the oncoming lane. What should you do?
A follows slow truck B on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. The card gives 45 mph and a hill crest 500 feet ahead; a separate side profile shows the crest and the road beyond it, not to scale.
Correct answer: Stay behind it until you see about a quarter mile of clear road ahead.
Why
Also do not pass within 100 feet of an intersection or railroad crossing, or on a curve that limits your view of oncoming traffic. To pass, your speed must be about 10 mph higher than the speed of the vehicle that you pass. Passing at night is the most dangerous, because you cannot see as far and it is hard to judge the distance of oncoming headlights.
