After heavy rain, a ROAD CLOSED barrier stands in front of a low part of the road. Water flows across the road and looks about 6 inches deep. A pickup truck just drove around the barrier and through the water. What should you do?
A approaches a ROAD CLOSED sign on a barricade spanning both lanes before a flooded dip. Moving water crosses the road beyond the barrier, and silver pickup B is on the far side. The card says B just crossed and the water only appears about 6 inches deep.
Correct answer: Turn around and take another route to your destination.
Why
Floods are one of Pennsylvania's top hazards, and many flood deaths happen in vehicles. Two feet of moving water can move most SUVs and pickup trucks. Driving around a barrier that closes a road for a hazard brings 2 points and a fine, and a higher fine plus the cost of the rescue if emergency crews must come. If your vehicle gets stuck in floodwater, get out quickly and move to higher ground.
