Weather, Visibility & EmergenciesStandalone practice
It is raining steadily. You count 4 seconds from the time the car ahead passes a sign until your car reaches it. What should you do?
A follows B in steady rain and reaches the same roadside sign that B has already passed. The card states that A’s measured count is four seconds.
Correct answer: Drop back until you count about 5 to 6 seconds, and ease your speed down a little.
Why
Tires have less grip on wet pavement, so each stop takes longer. The first 10 to 15 minutes of rain are often the most slippery, because oil rises from the asphalt. On packed snow, cut your speed by about half, and on ice leave about ten times the normal space.
