At 2 p.m., thick fog lets you see only about 300 feet ahead. No other vehicles are near you. Which lights should you use while you drive?
A approaches thick daytime fog on an otherwise empty two-lane road. The road markings fade into the fog; the card gives 2 p.m. and visibility of about 300 feet.
Correct answer: Low-beam headlights, plus fog lights if your vehicle has them.
Why
Fog is one of the most dangerous driving conditions, because you cannot see far and other drivers cannot see you. Slow down so that you can stop within the distance you can see, and check your speedometer, because fog makes it hard to judge speed. If the fog becomes so dense that you cannot see, pull completely off the road, turn on your hazard lights and keep your seat belt fastened.
