Maya is 15 years and 9 months old. She wants to start the process for a Pennsylvania non-commercial learner's permit. What may she do now?
Correct answer: Have the medical part of the form done now, but apply on or after she turns 16.
Why
Pennsylvania sets 16 as the youngest age to apply for a non-commercial learner's permit. Because the medical examination may be dated up to 6 months before the 16th birthday, a teen can prepare early and apply on the birthday. An applicant under 18 also needs a signed consent form from a parent, a guardian, a person in loco parentis or a spouse aged 18 or over. The permit is issued after the vision and knowledge tests.
