On a two-lane road, an oncoming car drifts into your lane. You sound your horn, but it keeps coming. The oncoming lane to your left is empty, and the right shoulder is clear. What should you do?
Oncoming silver B straddles the center lines and enters blue A’s lane on a two-lane road. The right shoulder is clear, and the card states that B keeps coming after A sounds the horn.
Correct answer: Steer right toward the shoulder; a swerve left fails if the other driver moves back.
Why
First use your horn to get the other driver's attention. If a collision cannot be avoided, brake firmly and steadily, because every mile per hour that you remove reduces the force of the impact. Head-on collisions are one of the four major crash types for new drivers in Pennsylvania.
