Passing target: 83.3% (15/18)
You drive in the left lane of a three-lane highway and want to move into the center lane. You signal, and your mirrors and a quick shoulder check show that the center lane is clear. What else should you check before you move?
A travels in the left of three same-direction lanes and B travels in the right lane. The center lane is empty; the card says A has signaled and checked its mirrors and blind spot.
Correct answer: The right lane, for a driver who may be about to move into the center lane.
Why
A safe lane change has these steps: signal, check the mirrors, glance over your shoulder at the blind spot, and check any other lane that can feed into the same space. Keep each glance short, so that your eyes are off the road ahead for no more than a second. Move smoothly at the speed of traffic, and cancel the signal after the lane change.
