Your exit is ahead. A yellow sign on the ramp shows 25 mph for a sharp curve. Traffic on the highway moves at 65 mph. When and how should you slow down?
A travels in the right through lane toward a separate exit lane that bends sharply right. An official yellow 25 M.P.H. plaque stands beside the ramp, and the card states that highway traffic moves at 65 mph.
Correct answer: Move into the exit lane first, and then slow down so that you reach 25 mph before the curve.
Why
Crashes happen when traffic on a highway slows down without warning. The manual tells you to get into the proper lane for the exit well ahead and not to slow down until you are in the exit lane. Exit ramps have a warning sign that shows the maximum safe speed, and Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. 3361) requires a safe speed when you approach and go around a curve. Do most of your braking while the ramp is straight.
