You come up behind a snowplow that clears a two-lane road at about 25 mph. What is the safest choice?
Blue A follows a working snowplow on a snowy road with one lane in each direction. Blowing snow trails behind the plow, and the card gives its speed as about 25 mph.
Correct answer: Stay well back and do not try to pass the plow on either side.
Why
Plow drivers often have to turn around, and they cannot see a car close behind them. Wing plows are hard to see at night or in blowing snow and have caused many side-swipe crashes. A safe distance also protects your car from the salt, liquids and grit that the plow spreads.
