At 2 a.m., you stop at the stop line for a steady red light. You want to go straight. No vehicles or pedestrians are in sight in any direction. What must you do?
At night, blue car A is stopped before the white stop line and crosswalk at an empty intersection. A signal detail shows a steady circular red light; the card gives the time as 2 a.m. and says A plans to go straight.
Correct answer: Stay stopped at the line until the light turns green.
Why
At a steady red light, stop before the stop line; if there is no line, stop before the crosswalk, or before the intersection. Pennsylvania allows a right turn on red after a full stop unless a sign prohibits it, and a left turn on red from a one-way street onto another one-way street. For those turns, you must still yield to pedestrians and traffic. A signal that is completely dark is different: treat it as a four-way stop.
