Traffic Signals & Road MarkingsStandalone practice
You drive on a five-lane road. How can you tell from the pavement markings that the center lane is a lane for left turns by traffic from both directions?
Correct answer: Each side of the center lane has a solid yellow outer line and a broken yellow inner line.
Why
The outer solid yellow line tells drivers not to use the center lane for passing, and the inner broken line shows that turning drivers may enter it. Pennsylvania law lets drivers use this lane only to prepare for or make a left turn, or a U-turn where one is otherwise allowed. A CENTER LANE LEFT TURN ONLY sign can also mark this lane.
