Passing target: 83.3% (15/18)
You drive on a four-lane road with no median. Two lanes go each way, and a double solid yellow line marks the center. You are in the left lane behind a slow car. A broken white line separates you from the right lane, which is clear. How may you pass?
A follows slower car B in the left of two lanes traveling to the right. The right lane is empty and separated by a broken white line; double solid yellow lines divide the opposite half of the four-lane road.
Correct answer: Signal, check the right lane, and pass there by crossing the broken white line.
Why
White lines separate lanes that move in the same direction; yellow lines separate opposite directions. On a road with two or more marked lanes each way, you may pass on the right, but stay on the pavement and never use the shoulder. Before you cross a broken white line, signal and check your mirrors and blind spot, because a driver in the other lane may also move over.
