You turn onto a road at night. Then you notice that the yellow line is on your right side and a solid white line is on your left side. What does this tell you?
At night, blue car A faces right along one side of a divided road. A solid white line runs along A’s left and a yellow line runs along A’s right beside the median; separate labels identify the line colors.
Correct answer: You are going against the flow of traffic; the yellow line belongs on your left.
Why
Use the line colors as a direction check: yellow on your left and white on your right tell you that you are on the correct side. If the colors are the other way around, move to the correct side as soon as you safely can. Wrong-side driving often plays a part in the crashes of 16- and 17-year-old drivers in Pennsylvania.
