You enter a highway on a short weaving lane. Drivers who leave the highway use the same lane. You and a driver who wants to exit both need the same space. Who must yield?
A is entering the shared lane that also leads to a highway exit. B is in the highway lane beside it, preparing to move into the same space to leave.
Correct answer: You must yield, because the exiting driver is still part of the highway traffic.
Why
In a short weaving lane, two drivers can try to use the same space at the same time, so conflicts happen quickly. The manual tells the entering driver to yield to the exiting driver. Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. 3321(b)(2)) gives traffic on a limited-access highway the right-of-way. Adjust your speed early, and look in your side mirror and over your shoulder for a gap.
