Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You find an open space along the curb. The front of your car would be 25 feet before a stop sign on your side of the street. May you park there?
A is shown in a proposed parking position beside the right curb before a STOP sign. The card says that A’s front would be 25 feet before the sign; no minimum distance is shown.
Correct answer: No. You may not park within 30 feet of a stop sign.
Why
A car parked close to a stop sign can hide the sign from approaching drivers, and it can hide cross traffic from drivers who stop there. The same 30-foot rule applies to traffic signals and flashing beacons. Also check the other distances, such as 20 feet from a crosswalk and 8 feet from a hydrant.
