Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You approach a YIELD sign where your road joins a busier road. There is a crosswalk but no stop line. A pedestrian starts to cross in the crosswalk in front of you, and a car on the busier road comes close to the intersection. What should you do?
A approaches a YIELD sign and a marked crosswalk with no painted stop line. Pedestrian C has stepped from the right sidewalk into that crosswalk, in front of A. Silver B approaches close on the busier cross street.
Correct answer: Stop before the crosswalk, and go only after the pedestrian crosses and the car passes.
Why
A YIELD sign always requires you to slow down, and it requires a full stop when a pedestrian or a close vehicle makes a stop necessary for safety. If there is no stop line and no crosswalk, stop at the point nearest the cross road where you can see the traffic. Enter only when the gap is large enough that drivers on the busier road do not have to brake for you.
