Passing target: 20 correct signs and 20 correct rules
Before attempting parallel parking, how much longer than your vehicle does SGI recommend the available space should be?
Blue A is beside a silver car at a curb. The vehicle at the other end of the possible parking space is outside the shown context, so no full gap can be measured.
Correct answer: At least 2 m longer than the vehicle.
Why
SGI's suggested parallel-parking method starts with choosing a space at least 2 m longer than your vehicle. If unsure, stop beside the space and check before beginning. Signal your intention, position the vehicle beside the vehicle ahead of the space, and check that the way is clear before reversing slowly. The extra 2 m is manoeuvring guidance; it is not a universal legal parking-clearance distance.
